Expert report finds negligence in death of Manisa Mayor Ferdi Zeyrek

An expert report prepared by Dokuz Eylül University has detailed a chain of negligence leading to the death of Manisa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ferdi Zeyrek. Zeyrek died in June after being electrocuted in the machine room of a pool at his residence.

The 46-page report concludes that the pool and its machine room were not included in the original architectural projects and were built in violation of zoning regulations. Investigators found that the residual current device (RCD) in the machine room was faulty and that the electrical leak originated from the pool pump motor. The report noted that the motor's waterproofing had deteriorated and it had been placed on an unsecured plastic stand.

Technical analysis revealed that a proper grounding system would have reduced the voltage from 67 volts to approximately 6 volts, which would have prevented the fatal shock. The report identifies four individuals as primarily at fault and nine others as partially at fault, while finding Ferdi Zeyrek to be without any negligence in the incident. The case is scheduled to be heard by the Manisa 2nd High Criminal Court on October 9.
