Experts discuss AI implications for libraries, youth, and responsible consumption
Academic experts are addressing the multifaceted impact of artificial intelligence on society, focusing on information management and ethical consumption.
Julio Alonso Arévalo, head of the Library of the Faculty of Translation and Documentation at the University of Salamanca, discussed the transformation of the publishing sector and libraries. He noted that generative AI is redefining authorship and content production while altering technical processes like cataloging and information retrieval. Arévalo emphasized that rather than a threat, AI should be viewed as a tool to enhance content curation and personalized research services, though he stressed the urgent need for algorithmic literacy and ethical training.
In a separate seminar organized by the University of Castilla-La Mancha, professor Julio Alberto López Gómez addressed the relationship between AI, youth, and responsible consumption. The discussion explored how algorithms influence decision-making, the impact of digital environments on emotional well-being, and the role of engineering in promoting sustainable technology use. The seminar aimed to provide an interdisciplinary view of the ethical, social, and environmental challenges posed by technological consumption.
