Experts predict Czech Republic will not adopt the euro within ten years

Experts participating in a debate at the University of Pardubice concluded that the adoption of the euro in the Czech Republic is primarily a political issue rather than a purely economic one. They noted that politicians have repeatedly postponed the decision for over two decades, largely due to low public support for the single currency.

Petr Sklenář, director of the monetary section at the Czech National Bank, described the euro as a political project designed to strengthen the European integration process. Mojmíra Hampla, chairman of the National Budget Council, suggested that the Czech Republic can function effectively with its own currency, provided its monetary and fiscal policies remain superior to the euro area average. He warned that if the Czech Republic's policies underperform, maintaining a separate currency could become a burden.

Hampla also highlighted a paradox within the eurozone, noting that while a common currency is intended to encourage fiscal discipline, long-term data shows some member states, such as Bulgaria, have experienced increased budget deficits after joining.
