Medical experts urge personalized care for menopause awareness
In observance of World Menopause Day, medical experts and health institutions in Turkey and Greece are emphasizing the importance of personalized care and awareness regarding menopause.
In Turkey, the Ministry of Health reported that over 101,000 women have received education through Healthy Menopause Schools across 81 provinces. Medical professionals highlight that menopause, typically occurring between ages 45 and 55, is a natural transition but requires proactive management. Experts warn against the common mistake of normalizing symptoms like hot flashes, sleep disturbances, and joint pain, noting that these can mask serious issues such as bone density loss (osteoporosis) and cardiovascular risks.
Modern medical approaches favor personalized treatment plans rather than a one-size-fits-all method. Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) is noted as an effective option for many, provided it is tailored to an individual's medical history, including risks for breast cancer and blood clots. Lifestyle interventions, including antioxidant-rich diets, regular physical activity, and stress management, are also recommended to mitigate risks of early menopause and manage symptoms.
In Greece, academics from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens have echoed these calls, stressing that while menopause is a natural life event, it should not be experienced without support. They emphasize the need for early diagnosis of premature ovarian insufficiency to prevent long-term complications.
