Experts warn against using dishwasher tablets to clean washing machines

Experts and appliance technicians are warning against a viral social media trend that involves using dishwasher tablets to clean washing machines. While the hack is popular on platforms like TikTok and Instagram as a way to remove odors and buildup, specialists warn it can cause significant damage.

Unlike laundry detergents, dishwasher tablets contain aggressive degreasers designed for hard surfaces like glass and stainless steel. These chemicals can dry out and crack sensitive components in washing machines, such as rubber door seals and internal plastic hoses, potentially leading to leaks and expensive repairs.
