Explora Journeys to enter river cruise market with new fleet

Explora Journeys, the luxury cruise brand of the MSC Group, is expanding into the river cruise sector. The company has signed a letter of intent with the Dutch Den Breejen Shipyard to construct its first fleet of vessels for inland navigation.

While specific technical details, capacities, and itineraries have not yet been disclosed, sales for the new river cruise offerings are expected to begin in 2027. Den Breejen Shipyard, based in Hardinxveld-Giessendam, specializes in river cruise ship construction and has built over 45 units for industry operators.

Simultaneously, Explora Journeys is growing its ocean-going fleet. Following the July delivery of Explora III, the company currently has three operational units. Explora IV and V are slated for service in 2027, with Explora VI scheduled for 2028.
