Explosion destroys Fiat Scudo van near Caserta, Italy
On Monday morning an explosion ripped through a medium‑size Fiat Scudo van parked near the Caserta Sud highway exit in Marcianise, close to the Campania shopping centre and the La Reggia outlet. The blast generated a dense column of black smoke that rose high into the sky and was heard as a loud boato by nearby residents and motorists.
The fire engulfed the vehicle, destroying it almost completely. The driver managed to escape unharmed. Emergency services, including fire brigades, were dispatched and traffic on the surrounding roads was heavily slowed while responders worked at the scene. Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the explosion, though a mechanical failure is considered a likely possibility.
No injuries have been reported, but the incident caused significant disruption to local traffic and prompted a police investigation into the circumstances of the blast.
