Explosion and fire at Examilia vinegar plant in Corinthia kills a 25‑year‑old worker
A strong explosion struck a vinegar production and packaging plant in Examilia, Corinthia on 27 July 2026 at about 13:30. The blast was heard over ten kilometres away in both Corinth and Loutraki, producing a loud roar and thick black smoke visible from the city centres.
The explosion ignited a large fire that quickly engulfed the facility, destroying most of the plant. Firefighters recovered the charred body of a 25‑year‑old male worker; his identity was later confirmed by the mayor. Four other employees who were present survived unharmed. No further casualties have been reported.
Roughly 32–35 firefighters, a volunteer hiking group from the 9th EMODE, and ten to eleven fire engines responded, supported by ambulances and local water‑cannon units. The Greek Fire Service’s Arson Investigation Unit has been activated to probe the cause. Authorities suspect the blast may have originated from a propane tank, but this has not been confirmed.
