Explosion in Brasília apartment building injures two and forces evacuation

An explosion caused by a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) leak struck a mixed‑use building in the Núcleo Bandeirante area of Brasília, Brazil, on the night of 28 July. The blast occurred on the second floor of a four‑story structure that houses 21 apartments and a ground‑floor mechanical workshop. Two people were injured, one seriously, and were taken to hospitals for treatment.

Firefighters from the Corpo de Bombeiros Militar do Distrito Federal responded around 00:36 and evacuated all residents as a precaution. The Distrito Federal Civil Defense inspected the site, finding extensive structural damage, including cracked walls, broken windows, and risk of partial collapse, and consequently ordered the building to be interdicted. Police Civil and the Military Police are investigating the cause of the gas leak, which was traced to a P‑13 LPG cylinder.

Authorities continue to monitor the building’s safety and determine responsibility for the incident.
