Explosion in Økern, Oslo, damages commercial building

An explosion occurred at a commercial building in the Økern area of Oslo on Friday afternoon, causing significant material damage and shattering windows. One person sustained minor injuries in the blast.

Emergency services established a 50-meter safety perimeter and conducted evacuations in the immediate vicinity. While initial hypotheses suggested an issue with an electrical installation, investigators later ruled out the local power grid operated by Elvia. Authorities believe the explosion likely originated in the basement or below the first floor.

The blast caused power outages for more than 1,000 customers, though service was being progressively restored. Police have secured the property as a crime scene for forensic examination, but officials stated there is no immediate risk of structural collapse or building failure.
