Denis Vejzović’s coma case in Ireland sparks family’s plea for treatment

Denis Vejzović, a 38‑year‑old Croatian from Rijeka who has lived and worked in Ireland for ten years, suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm on 7 July. He has been in a coma at a hospital in Cork for about a month. Doctors have told the family that continued life‑sustaining treatment with machines may have no medical justification and that they could disconnect him without the family’s consent.

The family, led by his mother Hatidža Muminović, has launched a public appeal, including a GoFundMe campaign, to raise money for a possible transfer to another hospital – potentially in Croatia – and to obtain a second medical opinion. They have also contacted the Croatian Ministry of Health and the Croatian embassy in Ireland, which have indicated that protocol calls for the embassy’s assistance and coordination. The family says Denis shows occasional signs of response, such as opening his eyes and moving his hands, and they refuse to give up hope for his recovery.
