Explosion on Shrimp Boat Kills Worker in Mazatlán, Mexico
A 60‑year‑old worker died after an explosion and fire broke out inside the shrimp‑fishing vessel "Perseo" while it was under repair at the Muelle de las Malvinas in the Parque Industrial Alfredo V. Bonfil, Mazatlán, Sinaloa. The blast occurred during welding work, propelling the victim several metres from the ship; his body was found near a perimeter wall.
Municipal civil‑protection units, Mazatlán firefighters, the Red Cross and personnel from the Mexican Navy (Secretaría de Marina) responded to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading to other docked vessels. Paramedics confirmed the worker had no vital signs. Forensic investigators from the state prosecutor’s office and the police cordoned the site and will conduct an autopsy. Authorities are investigating possible human error or gas accumulation as the cause of the explosion.
