Explosions Heard Near Tanker in Strait of Hormuz
The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that a tanker’s captain heard two explosions while the vessel was transiting the Strait of Hormuz, about 9 nautical miles (16 km) southeast of Kumzar, Oman. The crew and the ship were reported safe and no environmental damage was observed.
The incident occurred as Muscat and Tehran were holding talks on joint management of the strategically vital passage for global oil shipments. Iran, which has de‑facto closed the strait following recent Middle‑East hostilities, has warned ships it deems non‑compliant.
No further injuries or spills were reported.
