Explosive ATM robberies reported in Vigevano and San Paolo di Civitate

Criminals used the ‘marmotta technique’ to target bank ATMs in two separate Italian locations. In Vigevano, a gang detonated an explosive device at a Bper branch on Corso Repubblica shortly after 3:30 AM on August 31, 2026. The blast caused significant damage to the branch, requiring intervention from firefighters and Carabinieri to secure the site. Investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible and determine the amount of stolen cash.

In San Paolo di Civitate, a group of at least five individuals arrived in a large dark vehicle around 4:00 AM and targeted a Banca Credem branch. Two explosions were reported during the attempt to breach the ATM. The blast damaged windows and the exterior of the building, though firefighters confirmed no structural damage to the facility. This incident marks the 26th ATM robbery in the province of Foggia this year. Specialized bomb disposal units from Bari and investigators from Foggia are currently processing the scene.
