Explosion near Colombia-Venezuela border leaves seven injured

An explosive device detonated on October 27 near the Francisco de Paula Santander international bridge, which connects Cúcuta, Colombia, with Ureña, Venezuela. The blast occurred in the El Escobal neighborhood, specifically behind the headquarters of the Colombian National Directorate of Taxes and Customs (DIAN).

The explosion resulted in at least seven injuries, including police officers and civilians. The blast caused significant material damage, destroying vehicle facades, breaking windows, and damaging nearby homes. Authorities temporarily closed the international bridge to pedestrian and vehicular traffic to allow specialized explosive teams to secure the perimeter and search for additional devices.

Local residents reported seeing a suspicious vehicle and smelling gunpowder prior to the detonation. The incident follows the high-profile assassination of Miguel Armando Castellanos Serrano, a former government secretary and mayoral candidate, which occurred the previous day in Cúcuta.
