Explosives found during water network construction in Caxias do Sul
Three explosive artifacts were discovered during the construction of a new water network in the rural area of Caxias do Sul, Brazil. The materials were found during excavation work at Travessão Porto, part of the 5.1-kilometer ‘Programa Água Boa’ project.
Following the discovery, the Brigada Militar isolated the area and advised nearby residents to evacuate their homes as a precaution. The BOPE bomb squad was deployed from Porto Alegre to assess and manage the situation.
Local residents suspect the explosives may have been left at the site approximately 20 years ago during road construction. The BOPE team successfully performed a controlled detonation in a nearby open area. No injuries were reported during the incident.
