Explosives recovered from APSRTC bus in Vijayawada

Police in Vijayawada have launched an investigation after a bag containing explosives was discovered on an APSRTC bus at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Bus Station. The bag, which contained approximately 46 to 49 slurry/gelatin sticks of ammonium nitrate and 50 detonators, was identified by a passenger, Asif Ali, who realized his own luggage had been swapped for the bag containing the materials.

The explosives, which are commonly used for detonating rocks in quarry mining, were recovered by a bomb disposal squad. Preliminary findings suggest the bag may have been left on the bus during its journey from Narasaraopet in the Palnadu district. Authorities suspect the materials may have been intended for sale to mining contractors.

Law enforcement officials are currently reviewing CCTV footage from various bus stations along the route, including Narasaraopet, Guntur, and Mangalagiri, to identify the individual responsible for transporting the explosives. A case has been registered under the Explosives Act and relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
