Expocacau trade fair begins in Bahia to boost cocoa business

The second edition of Expocacau is scheduled to take place in Ilhéus, Bahia, from August 25 to August 27. The event aims to surpass the R$ 240 million in business generated during its debut and expects to attract over 8,000 visitors. The fair will bring together producers, industry leaders, and suppliers of machinery, irrigation, and inputs.

According to IBGE estimates, Brazil's cocoa production is projected to reach approximately 321,000 tons in 2026, marking an 8.9% increase from the previous year. The states of Pará and Bahia are expected to account for more than 90% of this total. Specifically, Bahia's production is estimated at 137,400 tons, representing a 15.4% increase over 2025. While Bahia holds nearly 70% of the country's productive area, it currently accounts for less than half of the total harvest, highlighting opportunities for productivity improvements through better disease control and irrigation.
