Extinction Rebellion blocks A12 motorway near The Hague
Approximately 50 climate activists from Extinction Rebellion blocked the A12 motorway near The Hague for over two hours on Saturday. The unannounced demonstration began around noon at the Zuid-Hollandlaan, targeting the highway exit from the city.
Protesters cited ongoing drought and wildfires in France, Spain, and Limburg as motivation for the action. While some participants complied with police requests to leave, others were escorted into a public transit bus by authorities to be moved out of the city. The police ended the demonstration by order of the mayor, noting that the protest lacked legal permission.
Extinction Rebellion has already announced a follow-up demonstration scheduled for September 19 at the same location.
