Extratropical cyclone alert issued for Southern Brazil
The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) has issued a red alert for the potential formation of an extratropical cyclone off the coast of Southern Brazil. The system is expected to reach maximum intensity on Saturday, moving toward the ocean. This phenomenon brings a high risk of severe weather, including strong downdrafts, hail, and the possibility of tornadoes, particularly in parts of Paraná, Santa Catarina, and northwestern Rio Grande do Sul.
In addition to the cyclone's impact, instability is expected to affect parts of the Center-West and Southeast regions. Forecasts indicate rain and thunderstorms in São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, and Espírito Santo.
In Rio Grande do Sul, weather conditions on Saturday are expected to be mild with cloudy skies and isolated light rain. A cold air mass is advancing through the state, though it is not expected to be as intense as previous recent weather events. Temperatures in Porto Alegre are projected to range between 13°C and 18°C, while some areas in the Serra region may see lows near 8°C.
