Extratropical cyclone to bring rain to Southern Brazil
An extratropical cyclone is expected to form in the ocean on Sunday, October 11, driven by a low-pressure system currently affecting Rio Grande do Sul. According to meteorologists from MetSul, while the cyclone is intensifying, the strongest winds are expected to remain over the open sea and are unlikely to reach the mainland with sustained cyclonic force.
However, the cyclogenesis process is creating a moisture corridor stretching from Central to Southern Brazil. This is expected to bring widespread rain to the South, Center-West, and Southeast regions. While the risk of severe weather is considered low for Rio Grande do Sul, there is a possibility of localized severe weather, including hail and strong winds, in parts of Santa Catarina and Paraná.
