Brazil weather alert: Extratropical cyclone to bring storms and wind
An extratropical cyclone forming near the border of Rio Grande do Sul and Uruguay is expected to trigger significant weather changes across Brazil. The system, characterized by cyclogenesis, is projected to bring intense storms, heavy rainfall, and strong wind gusts—potentially reaching 100 km/h—to several states.
In the South, including Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, and Paraná, the cyclone is expected to cause heavy rain, hail, and temperature drops. Mato Grosso do Sul will also experience a transition from extreme heat and low humidity to cooler temperatures and rain. In the Southeast, states like São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro are braced for increased cloudiness, wind gusts between 52 km/h and 76 km/h, and potential light rain as the cold front advances.
Prior to the arrival of the cold front, much of the Center-West and Southeast regions have been experiencing intense heat with temperatures reaching up to 40°C and critically low humidity levels (10% to 30%), posing health risks such as dehydration, particularly for children and the elderly.
