Extremadura adopts record‑high 2026 budget under PP‑Vox coalition
The Junta de Extremadura approved its 2026 regional budget, the biggest in the community’s history at €8.854 billion. The centre‑right coalition of the Partido Popular (PP) and Vox secured the vote with 39 seats in favour and 26 against from the PSOE and Unidas por Extremadura, and rejected all 622 amendments submitted by the opposition.
President María Guardiola hailed the adoption as a “mission accomplished”, saying the plan will sustain growth and improve public services. Key spending areas include health, education and social assistance (about 66 % of the total), as well as housing, dependence care and infrastructure. The budget also introduces fiscal cuts, notably a reduction of the two lowest autonomous IRPF brackets and expanded exemptions in the inheritance‑donations tax for relatives such as un‑cles and nieces. A €110 million housing programme for 2026‑2029 is also funded.
The approval follows a prolonged parliamentary debate triggered by earlier budget failures that prompted an early regional election in December 2025. With the budget now in force, the regional government will move to its implementation phase.
