Extremadura Health Service proposes €61,000 compensation for vision loss
The Extremadura Health Service (SES) has proposed a compensation payment of €61,010.22 to a 64-year-old man who suffered near-total vision loss in one eye. Medical inspection confirmed a significant delay in both the detection and treatment of a retinal detachment.
The case began in May 2023 when the patient sought medical attention in Oliva de Plasencia due to eye discomfort and vision difficulties. Despite multiple consultations at the Hospital Virgen del Puerto in Plasencia and a referral to an optometrist in July, a definitive diagnosis was not reached until five months later. Following an examination at the University Hospital of Cáceres, the severity of the condition was confirmed, resulting in permanent vision impairment.
