Extremadura hosts tourism and gastronomy summits

The Extremadura region is hosting key events focused on tourism and local gastronomy. The University of Extremadura has launched its first Tourism Week, featuring conferences and field activities designed to connect students with the regional sector. Laureano León, the Counselor of Culture, Tourism, and Sports, emphasized a strategy based on quality, sustainability, and low massification, noting that the region has recently surpassed two million travelers and four million overnight stays annually.

Simultaneously, the first Congress and Gathering of the DOP Dehesa de Extremadura took place in Zafra. Industry professionals met to discuss the evolution and future challenges of the protected designation of origin, specifically regarding Iberian ham. Discussions covered market positioning, consumer labeling, and environmental concerns such as the holm oak drought, aiming to consolidate the region's gastronomic reputation.
