Extremadura launches joint recruitment for 40 local police posts

The Junta de Extremadura has approved a unified call to fill 40 Local Police positions across 23 municipalities in the region. The new "tribunal único" will replace the previous system where each town organised its own exams, allowing candidates to apply once and sit a single test. The selection process is slated to begin in September 2026, with successful candidates entering the mandatory training course at the Academia de Seguridad Pública de Extremadura in February 2027.

The municipalities receiving the most vacancies are Badajoz, Montijo and Azuaga, each with four posts, followed by Alburquerque with three and several towns – Herrera del Duque, Llerena, Madrigal de la Vera, Monesterio, among others – with two each. The remaining towns will receive one position each. The plan was endorsed by the Coordination Commission of Local Police, chaired by Vice‑President and Councilor Abel Bautista, aiming to reduce paperwork, speed up hiring and cut costs for the participating councils.
