Extremadura leads Spanish tourism perception and expands Blue Flag beach goals
Extremadura has emerged as the Spanish region with the highest tourism perception score for the second quarter of 2026. According to the LLYC Tourism Perception Barometer, the region earned a score of 7.7 out of 10, outperforming Asturias and Aragon. Digital sentiment analysis of 2,741 messages showed that 74% of the conversation regarding the region's tourism was positive, driven by factors such as Holy Week, rural tourism, gastronomy, and infrastructure improvements.
In parallel, the regional government is working to expand its freshwater tourism footprint. The Directorate General of Tourism is advising several municipalities, including Alange, Mérida, and Moraleja, to apply for the Blue Flag certification. Extremadura expects to hold eight Blue Flag distinctions for the upcoming summer season, an increase from the previous year, following the recovery of the Isla del Zújar beach in Castuera.
