Extremadura reports 25% of classrooms are now air-conditioned

The Secretary General of Education, José Pedro Catalán, announced in the Extremadura Assembly that 25% of classrooms in the region are currently equipped with climate control systems. Catalán stated that the percentage is expected to rise before the next summer season, noting that improvements from recently granted aid are still being implemented.

The initiative follows recurring demands from teachers and families to address high temperatures during the months of May, June, and September. The regional government has utilized various aid programs to improve school buildings through climate control installations and energy efficiency measures.

During the session, political representatives discussed the urgency of adapting schools to the region's heat. While some officials criticized previous administrations for failing to resolve the issue, others highlighted the planned investments and the need for dedicated management of school conservation and adaptation works.
