Extremadura to invest €3 million in individualized medication center

The Extremadura Health Service (SES) will invest approximately three million euros to establish a new center dedicated to the individualized preparation of medication for elderly residents in care homes across Extremadura.

Located near the Mérida Hospital, the facility will operate under the hospital's pharmacy service and is expected to begin functioning in early 2027. The project initially targets public care homes with more than 100 places, though private establishments may join through specific agreements.

This initiative aims to improve pharmacotherapeutic monitoring, simplify medication management in residential facilities, and increase safety by ensuring treatments are prepared specifically for each resident before being sent to their respective homes. The workforce will primarily consist of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
