Extreme day tripping trend sees rise in international travel

A growing travel trend known as ‘extreme day tripping’ involves travelers taking international flights to visit a foreign country for just a few hours before returning home the same day. This practice avoids overnight stays and hotel costs, often relying on short-haul flights and carry-on luggage only.

Data from Expedia indicates that one in four Millennial and Gen Z travelers in the United States planned to take a one-day international trip this year. In Europe, Kayak reported that same-day international round trips increased by 62% compared to the previous year. The trend is particularly prevalent in the United Kingdom due to the high availability of low-cost carriers and the proximity of various European cities.
