Extreme heatwaves impact El Salvador, Sonora, and Guayaquil

Multiple regions in Latin America are experiencing extreme weather conditions, characterized by intense heatwaves and atypical temperature shifts.

In El Salvador, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN) reports that heatwave conditions have affected 10 points across the country, with several stations breaking historical records for August. Temperatures in Santa Rosa de Lima reached 40.5 °C. Authorities expect the heatwave to persist until approximately August 20.

In Mexico, the state of Sonora is facing extreme heat, with maximum temperatures expected to reach between 43 °C and 47 °C in municipalities such as San Luis Río Colorado, Caborca, and Hermosillo. High humidity levels may push thermal sensations to 50 °C, posing significant risks to vulnerable populations.

In Ecuador, Guayaquil is experiencing an atypical August. Instead of the expected cooler weather, the city is facing temperatures between 32 °C and 35 °C accompanied by high humidity, forcing residents to adapt their daily routines to manage the heat.
