Extreme heat causes vehicle overheating and brake risks

Extreme temperatures are causing mechanical issues for vehicles, particularly in Reynosa, Mexico, where heat is leading to engine overheating and brake system risks. Drivers using digital platforms have reported having to suspend services because their vehicles can no longer operate effectively in the intense heat.

Experts note that when ambient temperatures exceed 30°C, the cooling capacity of brake discs and pads can decrease, increasing thermal load. This can lead to the crystallization of brake pads, which prevents proper adhesion to the disc and compromises braking performance. Warning signs include vibrations, unusual noises, increased stopping distances, and irregular pedal response.

In Reynosa, authorities expect maximum temperatures of 38 to 39°C, with heat indices reaching up to 45°C. Civil Protection recommends regularly checking water and coolant levels to prevent overheating during this period of high radiation.
