Extreme heat hits Tamaulipas as authorities warn of vehicle risks

Extreme heat is affecting the state of Tamaulipas, Mexico, with temperatures reaching up to 42°C in Nuevo Laredo. Other cities such as Reynosa and Ciudad Victoria are also experiencing high temperatures of 40°C and 39°C, respectively.

In response to the rising heat, the Civil Protection and Fire Department of Nuevo Laredo has issued an urgent warning against leaving people or pets inside vehicles. Authorities reported three recent emergencies involving an elderly person, a baby, and a pet left in cars. Officials noted that vehicle interior temperatures can rise by at least 10 degrees in just two minutes, creating a lethal risk of heatstroke.

Local authorities emphasized that negligence in these cases can lead to immediate legal consequences. While the peak heat period may be concluding, officials warn that high temperatures are expected to persist for the next 15 to 20 days.
