Extreme weather alerts issued for Hawaii and the Azores

Hawaii is preparing for the arrival of a third hurricane-strength system this season. Tropical Depression 15-E, located approximately 640 kilometers south-southeast of the Big Island, is expected to strengthen into Tropical Storm Nolo and potentially reach Category 2 or 3 hurricane status by Saturday. Forecasters warn of heavy rain, flash flooding, landslides, and dangerous sea conditions, particularly near the Big Island.

In the Atlantic, explosive cyclogenesis is expected to occur as two depressions interact, potentially creating a very deep low-pressure system. This weather pattern is expected to impact the Azores starting September 27, bringing increased cloudiness, precipitation, and wind gusts of up to 70 km/h. While the core of the system is expected to remain far from mainland Portugal, the associated circulation may bring rain and wind to the region.
