Extreme weather alerts issued in Mexico City and Canary Islands
Authorities in Mexico City have issued an orange alert for the Venustiano Carranza district due to persistent heavy rains and potential hail expected on the evening of September 11, 2026. Forecasts indicate rainfall between 30 and 49 mm. An yellow alert has also been updated for several other districts, including Álvaro Obregón, Coyoacán, and Iztapalapa, where rainfall of 15 to 29 mm is anticipated.
In Spain, the Ministry of Health has issued warnings regarding extreme temperatures across the Canary Islands. An orange alert is in effect for Santa Cruz and El Rosario in Tenerife, as well as Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Telde, and the island of Lanzarote. Fuerteventura is under a yellow alert. Temperatures in Santa Cruz are expected to reach 36 degrees Celsius by Wednesday. Additionally, the arrival of calima on Monday may exacerbate heat-related health risks by reducing humidity and altering temperature perception.
