Extremoz environmental charges filed against former official and company

The Public Ministry of Rio Grande do Norte (MPRN) has filed charges against a former Environment Secretary of Extremoz, a businessman, and the company Vetor Norte Urbanismo Ltda for environmental degradation.

The charges involve unauthorized environmental interventions across 21.58 hectares of Atlantic Forest biome. Investigations revealed that municipal licenses were issued in violation of legislation to allow deforestation and interventions in Permanent Preservation Areas (APP) involving dunes. The project intended to build a residential and commercial complex without the required prior approval from the state environmental agency, Idema.

The MPRN is seeking prosecution for environmental crimes and has requested a minimum of R$ 100,000 for the reparation of environmental and collective moral damages, to be directed to the State Environmental Prevention Fund.
