ExxonMobil advances Rovuma LNG project in Mozambique
ExxonMobil is advancing toward a final investment decision (FID) for the Rovuma LNG project in Mozambique’s Area 4, located in Cabo Delgado. The project aims to develop natural gas reserves and construct an onshore liquefaction unit for the production and export of liquefied natural gas (LNG). This progress follows a meeting between ExxonMobil leadership and President Daniel Chapo held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
In conjunction with this development, ExxonMobil Mozambique has launched a national awareness campaign across six provinces: Cabo Delgado, Inhambane, Tete, Nampula, Sofala, and Maputo. Organized in partnership with Global Edge Mozambique and the Area 4 partners—including Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH), China National Petroleum Corporation, Eni, Korea Gas Corporation, and XRG—the initiative seeks to inform students, professionals, and local communities about professional development and employment opportunities within the energy sector.
The Rovuma LNG project is expected to impact investment, employment, and state revenue, contributing to the industrialization of Mozambique’s gas industry. The project's advancement comes as the region seeks to resume large-scale energy investments following security challenges in Cabo Delgado.
