ExxonMobil awards $1.1bn in contracts for Mozambique Rovuma LNG

ExxonMobil and its Area 4 partners have awarded approximately $1.1 billion in pre-investment contracts to support the first phase of the Rovuma LNG project in Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado province. These contracts cover critical long-lead upstream equipment, including subsea production systems, large-bore valves, and offshore line pipe.

McDermott Energy Solutions (UK) Ltd. has received a letter of intent for limited engineering and procurement services for the project’s midstream development. This follows McDermott’s previous completion of Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) services. The largest equipment contract was awarded to OneSubsea UK Limited and OneSubsea AS, with in-country support from Aker Solutions Mozambique, Limitada.

The Rovuma LNG project is a joint venture involving ExxonMobil, Eni, and CNPC. The development aims to produce approximately 18.6 million tonnes of LNG per year and is projected to generate roughly $150 billion in revenue for the Mozambican state over its 30-year operating life. These recent contract awards serve as a significant milestone as the consortium works toward a final investment decision, currently expected in 2026.
