ExxonMobil suspends Guyana offshore operations after Liza Unity fire

A small fire on the Liza Unity floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel has led to a temporary suspension of ExxonMobil’s offshore operations in Guyana. The fire, which originated in a laundry room within the vessel’s living quarters, was quickly extinguished after heat detectors were activated.

All personnel on board were accounted for and reported safe, with no injuries or environmental damage reported. As a safety precaution, ExxonMobil suspended operations, including crude-oil offloading, to conduct necessary safety checks. The disruption has impacted crude lifting, with some reports estimating the affected volume at approximately one million barrels.

The Liza Unity is part of the Stabroek Block, operated by an ExxonMobil-led consortium including Chevron (30 percent) and CNOOC (25 percent). Guyana’s Ministry of Natural Resources and relevant regulatory authorities are expected to investigate the incident.
