EY establishes AI Value Realization Office and new residency programs

EY is implementing structural changes to manage the integration of artificial intelligence across its operations. The firm is establishing a new “AI Value Realization Office” to centralize AI spending and ensure technology delivers measurable results. According to Dan Diasio, EY’s global consulting AI leader, the office will oversee AI expenditures, monitor usage, and manage the transformation of work and employment caused by AI. This move addresses the challenge of AI's cross-functional nature; EY-Parthenon research suggests that 75% of potential enterprise value from AI stems from horizontal value streams that span multiple departments rather than isolated functions.

In response to AI reshaping entry-level roles, EY is also evolving its talent development model. The firm is transitioning its traditional eight-week internships into yearlong “Career Residencies.” These paid programs, lasting 8 to 12 months after the initial internship, provide assurance interns with remote work opportunities, personalized coaching, and skills development. This shift aims to prepare young professionals for a landscape where AI handles traditional “assembly” tasks—such as drafting proposals and synthesizing information—allowing junior consultants to focus more on exercising judgment and shaping client outcomes.
