EY report: AI and digital tools reshape consumer healthcare access

An EY Global Consumer Health Report, surveying 7,500 respondents across 10 markets, reveals that artificial intelligence and digital channels are rapidly reshaping how consumers access healthcare information and services.

Findings indicate that 70% of global respondents have sought or would consider seeking medical examinations, treatments, or prescriptions based on information from search engines. Notably, 56% of respondents are influenced by AI tools, a higher percentage than the 45% influenced by social media. Despite this digital shift, clinical doctors remain the most trusted source of health information.

The report also highlights changing patterns in accessing GLP-1 medications, used for type 2 diabetes and weight loss. While 58% of users obtained prescriptions from healthcare professionals, significant portions accessed them through other channels: 23% via weight management programs, 20% through online sources, and 20% through informal sources such as family or friends.
