EYATH expands water and sewage services to Thessaloniki and Chalkidiki under new law

Law 5325/2026, published on 31 July 2026 in the Government Gazette (A‑122), grants the Water and Sewage Company of Thessaloniki (EYATH) new powers and a wider geographic scope. The legislation extends EYATH’s exclusive water‑supply and sewage‑treatment rights until 2038 and expands its jurisdiction to cover the entire Regional Unit of Thessaloniki and the Regional Unit of Chalkidiki.

The company may now engage in irrigation activities and, potentially, manage storm‑water networks. It will acquire the assets and liabilities of existing water providers in the new areas after economic, legal and technical audits by independent bodies. Implementation is slated for completion by 31 July 2027, and a board member will be appointed by the Regional Union of Municipalities of Central Macedonia.
