Eye care: Proper cleaning and usage of corrective lenses

Proper hygiene and usage of corrective eyewear are essential to prevent vision damage and infections. For eyeglasses, common mistakes include breathing on lenses to moisten them, using paper napkins, or wiping them with clothing. These habits can cause irreparable scratches and wear down specialized coatings. Specialists recommend daily cleaning using only cold water and neutral soap, ensuring both the lenses and the frame are cleaned to remove bacteria and sweat.

Regarding contact lenses, improper use increases the risk of keratitis, corneal ulcers, and infections from microorganisms like Acanthamoeba. Common errors include wearing lenses longer than the manufacturer recommends, sleeping in them, and washing them with tap water. Maintaining hand hygiene before handling lenses and respecting their intended lifespan are critical steps to protecting ocular health.
