Eye health: Expert warnings and new public ophthalmology investments

Ophthalmologist Douglas Lazzaro has identified several daily habits that can negatively impact eye health and vision. Key risks include failing to protect eyes from sunlight, reading in low-light conditions, maintaining an inadequate diet, and insufficient hydration. Lazzaro noted that while genetics and aging are primary factors in eye disease, avoiding these common errors can help delay disease progression.

In Parauapebas, the municipal government is expanding access to eye care through the Municipal Health Secretariat. An investment of over R$ 400,000 has been allocated to secure new contracts with specialized medical service providers. This initiative aims to increase the number of consultations, exams, and procedures available to the public. The program also includes students in the municipal network via the Health in School Program (PSE) to ensure early identification of visual difficulties in children and adolescents.
