Eye health experts recommend regular exams for adults over 55
Medical experts advise that vision health becomes increasingly critical as individuals age. Seenu Hariprasad, a surgical retina specialist and chair of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at UChicago Medicine, recommends that patients over the age of 55 undergo eye exams every one to two years. For those over 65, annual exams are advised, even if no visual symptoms are present.
Common age-related vision issues include presbyopia, which typically begins around age 40 and causes difficulty focusing on small print up close. Experts highlight several key warning signs that older adults should monitor to maintain ocular health.
