EYP officer files lawsuit against Predator spyware suspects
Yannis Papadopoulos, an active member of the National Intelligence Service (EYP), has filed a lawsuit in Athens against Tal Dilian, Felix Bitziou, Ioannis Lavranos, and Sara Hamou regarding the Predator spyware scandal.
Papadopoulos, who serves at the EYP branch in Patra, claims his mobile phone was compromised by the illegal software. He argues his case is distinct from other victims because his professional role granted him access to sensitive, classified national security information. The lawsuit seeks to investigate whether the breach constitutes espionage against the state, the operation of a criminal organization, and the unauthorized handling of intercepted data.
The legal action comes as the broader wiretapping scandal continues to face judicial and political scrutiny. While some investigations were recently archived by the Supreme Court, a trial is scheduled for December in the Court of Appeals for the four individuals previously convicted for their involvement in the illegal surveillance.
