Eyüpsultan building evacuated after structural cracks detected

A five-story residential building in the Eyüpsultan district of Istanbul has been evacuated and sealed following reports of noises coming from its structural columns. The building, located on 1. Hilal Street in the Düğmeciler neighborhood, was constructed in 1972 and contains approximately 21 apartments.

Upon receiving reports from residents about sounds emanating from the columns, police, medical, and municipal teams were dispatched to the scene. A preliminary inspection revealed a crack in one of the columns, prompting authorities to immediately evacuate the residents and seal the structure as a precaution.

The final safety status of the building will be determined once core samples are taken and a technical report is completed. Residents expressed relief that the damage was identified before a potential collapse could occur.
