Eyüpsultan natural gas pipe punctured during İSKİ infrastructure work

A natural gas pipe was punctured during infrastructure work conducted by the Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration (İSKİ) in the Eyüpsultan district of Istanbul. The incident occurred around 16:00 on Eyüpsultan Boulevard when a construction machine accidentally hit a main artery pipe.

The puncture caused a loud explosion-like sound and a strong smell of gas, leading to panic among local residents and business owners. In response, İGDAŞ teams arrived to shut off the gas supply, while police and fire departments secured the area and evacuated citizens.

Local shopkeepers expressed frustration over the disruption, noting that the work caused traffic congestion and a loss of customers. Some residents criticized the timing of the infrastructure project, suggesting such work should be carried out during the summer rather than during the busy winter season.
