ČEZ Distribuce creates natural ponds in high-voltage protection zone

ČEZ Distribuce has completed a pilot project in the Rokycany region involving the creation of three natural ponds within a high-voltage power line protection zone between Těškov and Volduchy. The project, supported by a 300,000 CZK grant from the ČEZ Foundation, aims to harmonize technical infrastructure with local ecology.

The new wetland system provides a habitat for various species, including Europeanly significant amphibians such as the yellow-bellied toad and the mountain newt. The ponds feature shallow banks and water levels between 0.5 and 1 meter, which have remained stable even during recent hot summer periods.

Beyond ecological benefits, the project addresses operational challenges for energy technicians. Previously, the marshy terrain in the three-kilometer forest section made it difficult for service vehicles to access power line poles during repairs or inspections. By concentrating the water into a managed system of interconnected ponds, the ground has become stable enough for technical equipment to navigate the edges of the protection zone safely.
