Ezeiza: Thousands queue for 40 jobs at new supermarket branch
Thousands of job seekers formed a line extending more than ten blocks in Ezeiza, Argentina, to apply for 40 positions at a new Cabaña Santa Marta supermarket branch. The massive turnout forced company officials to move the recruitment start time from 8:00 AM to 6:00 AM to manage the crowd that had been gathering since the early morning hours.
The applicants represented a wide demographic, including young people seeking their first formal employment, experienced workers, and older adults. The company, a food distributor planning to open the new location in November, opted for in-person interviews to meet candidates face-to-face, a method that contributed to the large physical gathering.
This event highlights the current labor challenges in Argentina. According to reports from the Centro de Economía Política Argentina (CEPA), the country has seen a significant loss of registered jobs and a reduction in the number of employers since the current administration took office.
